Originally titled "Pumper 1", Code Red was a television series about a family of firefighters in Los Angeles. The original TV pilot was aired in September 1981, and the series followed in November of the same year. The family is lead by father Joe Rorchek (Lorne Greene) with both his sons, Ted (Andrew Stevens) and Chris (Sam J. Jones), following in his footsteps into the fire service. Ted is a firefighter and Chris a helicopter pilot. Some changes were made to the casting between the pilot and spin-off series, in particular the addition of a young abandoned boy, Danny Blake (Adam Rich), who is fostered and eventually adopted by the Rorchek family.
